Overnight, a routine traffic stop for a minor light law violation on Bennett Road resulted in two arrests.
Officers stopped the vehicle after observing an inoperable headlight on the vehicle. During the stop, an investigation by officers uncovered evidence leading to a series of drug-related offenses to include the Manufacture/Delivery/Sale of Methamphetamine, Manufacture/Delivery/Sale of a Schedule III Drug, Possession of a Schedule IV and VI Drug, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, among other offenses.
At the conclusion of the investigation, a 40-year-old woman, Eva Scarborough, from Clinton and a 35-year-old man, Derrick Hamby, from Wartburg were arrested for the alleged drug violations.
A warrant check also revealed that the 35-year-old man had active arrest warrants from Morgan County for Failure to Appear.
“This case underscores the department’s commitment to public safety and demonstrates that even routine stops can uncover more serious criminal activity. Proactive policing is not just about responding to crime—it’s about actively deterring crime, addressing potential issues before they escalate, and keeping the community safe,” said Oliver Springs Police Chief David Laxton.
