Congressman Chuck Fleischmann visited several East Tennessee counties today, including a stop in Wartburg where he made a special announcement for the citizens of Morgan County.
“I am Tennessee’s member of the appropriations committee. That means my job is to bring back funding, federal funding four our great counties, and I was able to secure a $2.5 million community funding project for Morgan County,” Fleischmann said.
“It is a road project, which is sorely needed, but the reality is we got that put in the housing transportation appropriations bill so when we get out budget passed later this year, Morgan County will get $2.5 million dollars.”
Fleischmann added the funds are for a specific purpose, Highway 62, which many in the area want to see widened from Petit Lane near Wartburg to the intersection of Highway 61 in Oliver Springs.
“That is specifically set up for that,” Fleischmann said. “It can’t be changed and that’s what that money will be used for.
“I’m always glad when I can get something, whether its a grant or an earmark, anything I can do for the great people of Morgan County, and in any of the surrounding counties as well, but Morgan County’s been so, so good to me.”
