Man arrested after possible explosives found near Oakdale

Tommy James Cooper, age 48, was arrested after an incident involving potentially explosive devices or weapons.

According to a statement from Ninth District Attorney General Russell Johnson, law enforcement officers responded to a domestic situation involving bounty hunters at 178 Forest Hills Road near Oakdale.

The bounty hunters were looking for Cooper, and found the potential explosives and other weapons upon entering the residence.

Cooper allegedly fled the scene on foot in an effort to escape both the bounty hunters and responding law enforcement. He was later apprehended by Morgan County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) Detectives Sarah Posey and Willie Dutton.

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI), ATF and Knox County Bomb Squad also responded to the scene.

The investigation is ongoing, but Cooper will be charged by MCSO for evading arrest and TBI is going to charge Cooper with five counts of unlawful possession of prohibited weapons.
