Duo face several charges related to incident
A late night chase last week resulted in the arrest of two people in Morgan County.
According to a Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP) report, a state trooper observed a 2003 black Pontiac Gran Prix driven by 28-year-old Benjamin Coty Wilder allegedly driving erratically near midnight on Feb. 25, crossing over the right shoulder and middle lane of the highway in the Mossy Grove Community of Morgan County.
The trooper attempted a traffic stop as the car slowed and pulled to the right. Instead of stopping, the vehicle fled the scene Wilder allegedly ran a pair of stop signs before turning onto Clayton Howard Road, where he attempted to pass a pickup truck on the left. Wilder drove completely off the roadway while attempting the pass and the pursuit continued into the City of Wartburg where both Wartburg City Police and Morgan County Sheriff’s Office personnel attempted to intercept the vehicle.
Continuing to run stop signs, Wilder made his way to Montgomery Road and continued to Ridge Road, where near Lilly Bridge Parking Area A, Wilder threw what was later discovered to be a glass smoking pipe in bubble wrap out the window.
Wilder was eventually stopped in a driveway on Hawn Road.
Wilder and passenger, 42-year-old Adonya Woods, were removed from the vehicle and arrested. During the arrest, Wilder was alleged to have slow speech, droopy eyelids and bloodshot eyes. Woods allegedly admitted the two had smoked meth earlier that day.
A search of the driver turned up a syringe, a crystal substance believed to be meth and another white powdery substance with blue specks believed to be fentanyl. Those items were logged into evidence and will be tested.
A search of the vehicle turned up numerous drug-related items.
Wilder and Woods were transported and booked into Morgan County Jail.
Both face several charges in regards to the incident.
Some of Wilder’s charges include evading arrest, DUI, reckless driving, reckless endangerment, along with several drug-related charges.
